Dear Everyone,
Here is a message I left for a Member about downloading with
the "buffer capture" method and how to convert the SEQuential image format
program files. I refer to HiggyTerm as the "buffer capture" Terminal Program,
but this message should cover all "buffer capture" programs. The message
also makes reference to saving a file larger than your buffer will hold, but
if the file you are downloading is NOT larger than your capture buffer then
you won't need to combine two smaller downloads. The display you see from
the READ on an .IMG file will be in HEXadecimal Notation.
........
I'll try to help a little with your "capture buffer" downloading using
HiggyTerm and then the IMGTP6.SEQ file (DL 1 ! in this CBMART Forum for
conversion). I just checked GAME1.IMG in DL 8 and it looks like it is just
a bit more than the size of the HiggyTerm buffer size. So you will need to
download it in two parts and then combine the two saved downloads into one
continuous file before converting it.
When you do download with capture buffering it is very important as to
when you open and zero your buffer in order for IMGTP6 to convert without a
lot of errors. That is, using GAME1.IMG as an example follow this procedure:
At the DL 8 Access Menu: prompt (on this CBMART Forum) don't select
anything from the menu, just enter:--
bro game1.img
and after the brief DESCription is displayed and you get the Disposition
Menu, don't select anything from the menu just enter --
read/intel
AND DO NOT HIT the CARRIAGE RETURN YET!!
Now, OPEN your Buffer and ZERO the Buffer.
Next hit the Carriage Return
Since this is a large file you will need to save it as two files to begin
with. So to stop the transmissiKKou must use a CONTROL-A (NOT a CONTROL-S)
because CONTROL-A stops transmission at the END of a line which is very
necessary when you finally combine your two downloads. Once you stop with a
CONTROL-A you start again with a CONTROL-Q. So periodically stop with a
CONTROL-A and check how full your HiggyTerm buffer is. When it is say
around 25000 to 30000, save this buffer as GAME1.FILEA. Next ZERO your
buffer and enter a CONTROL-Q to start the transmission again. When the file
ends, close the buffer and save it as
GAME1.FILEB
Now when you log off from CompuServe, here is how to combine
these two files as one complete file with Direct Commands entered thru the
keyboard.
OPEN15,8,15
PRINT#15,"C0:GAME1.FILE=0:GAME1.FILEA,0:GAME1.FILEB"
CLOSE15
The IMGTP6.SEQ file in DL 1 on CBMART is a TEXT BASIC file
and you will need to READ it, save it to diskette, print it, enter it manually
through your keyboard, and save it as a program. Then you can convert your
image SEQuential files by running it.
When you run IMGTP6 --
the "I/P file" is GAME1.FILE
the "O/P file" is what you want the PRG file to be named.
When IMGTP6 asks "Did you download letters as:
1 PETSCII lower-case
( = ASCII Upper case)
2 ASCII lower-case
3 PETSCII upper-case
Select number three for PETSCII upper-case. If your buffer captures
went well and you didn't save anything but the image format [HEX Code] you
shouldn't have any errors for Skip, etc., except possibly at the very end
when you would answer "Skip". I hope this will help a little.
........
If you find you are getting a lot errors while running IMGTP6, then
run IMGTP6 again and this time select number one for PETSCII lower-case.
As you know, when using the "capture buffer", you must enter read/intel
rather than DOWnload with Protocol, so your transmissions are subject to
transmission errors which appear then when running IMGTP6.
Please let a Sysop know how your converting is going and, if you have
other questions, just leave a message to Sysop and you will receive an answer.
Perhaps with the "buffer capture" downloading method you will be able to
"buffer capture" a Public Domain XMODEM protocol Terminal Program for easier
XMODEM Protocol downloading.
Take care and Good Luck!!
Sincerely,
Sysop/Betty Knight
